Afrocentrica has evolved from a childhood freedom of exploration and fascination with the "dark continent". It is an expression of a spectrum of elements, ranging from old Africa, nature, tribal face painting and political conflicts. As such, Afrocentrica itself is compartmentalised into different forms of expression and mixed media. I take my cues from stylised forms of African art. My use of white has become an important compositional ingredient in balance and breathing space The intent is to focus single-mindedly on the subject by contrasting rich tonal earth colours with the white textured surface thus creating a contemporary feel. The textured surface generates ambience and moodiness through the play of light over the surface - a dimensional form within itself. To me Africa represents a fusion of contrasts and Afrocentrica portrays this diversity.
